DAY 7: Sunday "Rest" Day

Today we got the opportunity to go to Belay’s church called ACLA.  After a quick stop at the nearby coffee cafe with lattes that looked straight out of a Pinterest board, we went to join in on worship.  The worship, sermon, and overall environment didn’t feel much different than a church family in America.  It’s truly amazing to experience the continuity and connectedness of all believers that are in the same body of Christ.  

Afterwards, we had lunch at Sishu (a hamburger and fries restaurant that tastes similar to In-n-Out) and had opportunities for more coffee and ice cream afterwards. At the coffee shop, there was a very sudden rain storm and a group of kids were seeking shelter.  Belay bought some bread for the children and defended them from a man who wanted them to leave.  His act of kindness, reflecting the lovingkindness of Jesus, was something that was truly powerful. And after a quick stop getting Ethiopian soccer jerseys, we encountered more children who were begging.  The assistant of the bus driver went to chase them away to make the experience “nicer” for us, yet he was probably unaware that we are actually here for children.  Our hearts break for the vulnerable children of Ethiopia, and it’s hard to articulate, but while we can’t solve everything, we know God is full of mercy and compassion and has such an affection for His little children. 

We ended our night at the hotel playing card games and resting. Please pray for the people on our team who are feeling under the weather, and for the children of Ethiopia.
